Remembering the Trip: Easter in Wales

posted on 12 February 2013

A couple of years ago a met a guy with a big van - don't ask me the brand, I can't distinguish between a Volkswagen and a Corvette, though I used to sell Fiat Doblo roof bars for a living so I should now! This guy played the guitar and he was really interested in our opinion about his music so we became friends. We were a bunch of college school adolescents then, living in England and really excited to explore the world. The van and 'the trip' were the dreams of a lifetime! We decided to go camping to Wales, we stuffed the van with lots of blankets, a tent, many warm clothes, casseroles, games, food, water, musical instruments, basically anything five people could use in four days. Sometimes I wonder how the van even started with all this weight. It was around the time that foot and mouth disease was at its high, most of the dirtroads were closed off and sometimes we would be forced to turn around. In these cases we had to disinfect the tires of the van by driving on a mattress with a disinfectant solution that the farmers had arranged. Finally, after many hours of driving and going back and forth, we took another dirt road by chance and ended up in an old mine! It was amazing, it was a completely deserted mine, a few area dug many meters down until there was a lake in the bottom. There was grass everywhere and too much cold. So we started making a fire and fix the tent. Eventually, we used all the clothes and blankets we had brought with us but it was still so cold that we all went to sleep in the van!

Trash in 2012: Worse Than Ever

posted on 17 January 2012

So I decided to take a walk the other day to a park near my home and guess what? It was full of trash! It was so disgusting! And I was so angry for that! I just could not believe that there are still people in these days that litter. I mean it's 2012 we are supposed to be civilized people! Asides from it being a contamination source it’s the obvious fact that it looks horrible. It repels people from going to safe and healthy places like the park, it’s just not fair for the people that lives near or that frequently goes to the park to take a walk or to do exercise or to go and play with their kids and such. About the only people happy with this state of affairs are companies running sweeper hire services. And something that bothers me is also the fact that authorities do nothing about it! I think that is the main reason for litter to be in the streets and parks and everywhere, people don’t get sanctioned so it’s easy for them to just throw their stuff in the street!

How a GPS Fleet Management System Is Used by Hospitals

posted on 11 April 2011

Doesn’t it amaze you how an ambulance can get to the scene of the accident in such as short time? Whenever there is an accident or when you call 911 for help the operator immediately contacts the nearest hospital or police station. With the help of the GPS fleet management system they are able to locate the nearest available ambulance in the area. This is made possible because a GPS device can transmit data like location maps on the internet. With a quick look on the screen the operator on 911 can already determine which the nearest hospital with an ambulance is. A GPS device is also mounted on the ambulance and with this the 911 operator you are speaking with can give you a report on its exact location even while it is moving. They can even estimate the time the ambulance will arrive in your destination or at the scene of the accident. This system has improved the response time of most rescue operations.
